Your privacy on the Net is of the utmost importance to us. At SiteOnTheNet, we want to make your experience online satisfying and safe.
Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather and how we use it.
We are committed to protecting any personal information we receive from you. We collect this information lawfully and in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998.
What information we gather and how we use it:
SiteOnTheNet gather two types of information about you:
- Information that you provide on a voluntary basis.
- Information we gather through site tracking.
1. Voluntary information
- When you sign up at SiteOnTheNet as a customer, subscriber, or submit any information you voluntarily provide some or all of the following: your name, the name of your business, your postal address, telephone number, email address, URL and how you heard of us.
- This information is placed in our contacts database and may be used to:
- respond to your queries,
- process and fulfil any orders for services or products you sign up for,
- enable us to send you information on service issues or updates
- provide you with general marketing or promotional information related to our products and services,
- provide you with information about the products of business partners that compliment our services and that we feel may be of interest to you.
- If you're an existing service customer you must accept that, while you hold an account with us, we reserve the right to keep you informed of news relevant to your account at our discretion.
- If you're not an existing service customer, but have submitted information to us (say, in a survey, or to sign up for giveaways, or a newsletter), you may remove yourself from our mailing list by following the unsubscribe instructions and/or link contained in every email you receive from us.
2. Usage tracking
- General information - We use tracking technology to help us determine which areas of our Web sites are performing effectively based on aggregated traffic patterns to and from those areas.
As part of this practice overall usage statistics are broken down according to IP address, browser type, and MIME type. This information is read from the browser string and is contained in every user's browser.
We do not use this information to identify and monitor the habits of individual users.
- Cookies - We use cookies for storing temporary information about you in the following situations:
- when you login as a customer to your client account areas or services - a session ID cookie is set and then destroyed when you logout.
The cookies do not contain personal information, cannot read data on your hard drive and cannot read cookies created by other sites.
You can delete cookies, 'warn before accepting' or refuse cookies altogether by using/modifying your browser settings.
- Usage tracking helps us continue to build a better service for all our users.
Information we share with others:
1. General policy
It is our policy that we do not share personal information that identifies individual users to any third party.
However, the following circumstances are exceptions to the rule:
- In order to register a domain name we are required to send your name, the name of your business (if required), your postal address, telephone number and email address to organisations that formally record the registration - this information may be available to others via a 'whois' search
- If you disclose information in a public space such as any bulletin board, forum, chat room or Web site we may host or operate, either as part of your client account with us, or not as the case may be.
- If you have provided a testimonial for us to publish for service endorsement and promotional purposes, at our discretion.
- If we are required to do so by law or a statutory body
- To any financial institution with whom we hold an account for the purpose of verifying credit status and/or validating financial transactions.
2. Credit/Debit cards
- PayPal processes all credit/debit card transactions for the SiteOnTheNet websites.
When signing up for services or products we will collect your name, address and email address on our secure server and then, at the 'PayPal' stage, pass you (plus your name, address, email and package details) to the secure PayPal server for completion of your order.
PayPal then collects from you - if not an existing PayPal account holder - your credit/debit card details over its secure server (to guarantee your card security) and passes upon successful payment, the following confirmatory information back to SiteOnTheNet to enable us to fulfil your order: your name, address, email address and details of the service/product purchased.
- We do not receive, collect or store your credit/debit card details.
3. Links to other sites and advertisements
- The SiteOnTheNet Web sites may contain advertising and links to other Web sites. No personal information is passed to other Web sites.
- We are not responsible for the content, tracking or information gathering practises of Web sites we link to. We would advise you to read the privacy policy of these Web sites if you are concerned about your privacy.
Security and the maintenance of information
SiteOnTheNet Web sites and services operate on secure data networks protected by industry standard systems. This includes firewall and other advanced software security systems, password/permission-based protection systems, automated virus detection and support for encrypted transmission to SSL enabled sites and pages.
Our servers are housed in secure state-of-the-art data facilities operated by technology partners 24/7 to minimize access by unauthorized persons and to protect against the impact of power failures, severe weather disruptions and other acts of God that could make our services and the privacy of user information vulnerable.
Finally, as a proviso, we cannot guarantee 100% that user information will be totally and permanently secure, only that we make every effort to ensure that it remains as secure as possible. There may also be unforeseen issues related to, or circumstances impacting on, customer information, privacy and security not anticipated in this policy.
